CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team won their fourth straight match with a 7-2 victory over Belhaven University on Tuesday afternoon at the MC Tennis Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (6-4), who have not lost in two weeks, grabbed an early 3-0 lead over the Blazers (7-4) with a sweep of doubles action.
Juniors
Christa Owen and
Courtney Schrock coasted to an 8-2 victory at the #3 position, while sophomore
Karly Matthews and freshman
Ashley Ochsenhirt won the #2 point by a score of 8-4.
Sophomore
Brenna Keller and freshman
Anna Shuliak finished the sweep with an 8-5 win at the #1 match.
Going into singles play, MC needed just two victories to clinch the match, and Keller got them started off quickly with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Natalia Lopez at #1.
Owen would finish off the match with a three-set victory over Mary Lichlyter at #4. After splitting the first two sets, Owen would take the third, 6-3.
Schrock (#5) and Ochsenhirt (#6) would give the match its final result with straight-set victories, dropping just two total games between the two of them and Schrock picking up a 6-0, 6-0 win.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in Gulf South Conference action this weekend when they travel to face Lee on Sunday (1:00 pm) and North Alabama on Monday (11:00 am).
