CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team opened Gulf South Conference play with a 9-0 sweep of Christian Brothers University on Wednesday afternoon at the MC Tennis Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (1-2, 1-0 GSC) opened the match with two 8-0 victories as the #1 team of sophomore
Brenna Keller and freshman
Anna Shuliak and the #2 team of sophomore
Karly Matthews and freshman
Ashley Ochsenhirt cruised to wins.
The third doubles match was won by MC over the Lady Bucs (1-5, 0-4 GSC) by default.
In singles action, the Lady Choctaws continued to dominate as Keller (#1) and junior
Courtney Schrock (#5) picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins. MC would win the #6 singles point by default.
With the match already clinched, junior
Christa Owen (#4) grabbed a 6-2, 6-2 win, while sophomore
Katie Reid (#2) and Shuliak (#3) won their matches by scores of 6-2, 6-4.
It was MC's first clean sweep of the season after posting five last season.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Arkadelphia, Ark. for matches against North Central Texas and Ouachita Baptist on Friday and face Maryville (MO) on Saturday.
