Softball Preview: Millsaps

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team will look to get back to their winning ways when they host Millsaps for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex. The twin-bill is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.

THE COACHES
The Lady Choctaws are led by 10th-year head coach Brooke O'Hair, who is the winningest skipper in Lady Choctaw history with 245 career victories. She has led MC to four 30-win seasons, three NCAA Regional appearances and two NCCAA World Series.

The Majors are led by head coach Erin Clary.

THE SERIES
The Lady Choctaws and Majors have met 50 previous times with MC holding a 37-13 edge in the series. The teams have played 26 times in Clinton with the Lady Choctaws picking up 20 wins at the MC Softball Complex.

LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Choctaws were swept in a three-game GSC series against West Florida last weekend. The opener went to extra innings with the Argos scoring twice in the 9th to pull out the win. They came back with a DH sweep on Saturday, winning 4-2 and 6-1.

The Majors won all four games last weekend, picking up two victories apiece over Huntingdon and the University of Dallas. They outscored their opponents 26-8 on the weekend.

MILESTONE WATCH
Senior Carlie Sargent got back in the circle this weekend after missing five games due to injury. She ranks 3rd in school history in strikeouts/game (5.73), 8th in strikeouts (171) and 9th in lowest ERA (2.24).

Senior infielder Kimmie Conley ranks 9th in school history in RBI (68) and is tied for 15th in career games played (139).

Junior outfielder Megan Everett became the 20th player in school history to reach the century mark in hits, pulling off the feat against Delta State. She now ranks 15th in school history with 104.

THE MATCHUP
The Lady Choctaws are led at the plate by freshman Kristen Qualls (.405), who opened the season with a 12-game hitting streak. She also leads the way with five doubles, four home runs and 16 RBI. Freshman Alexia Harmon (.383) has started every game at shortstop for MC and has a team-high 18 hits.

Sargent (2-3, 2.65 ERA) lost two tight games last weekend to West Florida as the Argos scored runs in their last at-bat to get the come-from-behind victories. Freshman Penny Nichols (3-4, 3.24 ERA) leads the team in innings pitched (45.1) and strikeouts (28).

The Majors are led at the plate by Rayne Gravat (.481), who has a team-high 13 hits, two home runs and 14 RBI. Mary Romero (.440) leads the team with nine runs scored, while Kat Romero (.280) has stolen seven bases this season.

Cassidy DeNoon (4-1, 2.26 ERA) leads the Majors in innings pitched (34.0), strikeouts (26) and ERA. Danielle Faucheaux (1-1, 3.00 ERA) has pitched three complete games this season.
