Choctaws Prepare to Host GSC Semifinals

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team are in preparation to host the 2016 Gulf South Conference Postseason Soccer tournament on Nov.4-6.
                                               
The Choctaws (10-3-2) finished the 2016 regular season 7-1-1 in conference play, earning them the regular season conference title and the rights to serve as the host site as the number one seed for the last two days of the conference tournament.  MC heads into the tournament with the conference's highest scoring offense, averaging 2.44 goals per match. First Team All-Conference selections Jorge Delgado and Jacob Farthing pace the MC attack, with a combined 16 goals on the season (Delgado 10, Farthing 6). MC was the lone representative in the latest NCAA South Regional Rankings, checking in at number four.
 
The Hawks of Shorter University (7-5-2, 6-1-2 GSC) will serve as the number two seed in the tournament. Shorter posted a home record of 3-0-2 versus GSC opponents on the year. The Hawks bring an offense into Friday's action that is averaging a conference-high 15.64 shots per contest.
 
The University of West Florida (9-5-2, 5-1-2 GSC) locked up the number three seed for the tournament. The Argonauts defeated the Chargers of UAH 2-1 in round one of the tournament on Tuesday. West Florida finds themselves second in the conference in both assists (31) and assists per game (1.98).
 
The University of West Alabama (10-6-1, 5-3-1 GSC) comes into the tournament as the number four seed. The defending GSC-Tournament Champs knocked off the fifth seeded Lee University Flames 3-1 in opening round action on Tuesday. The Tigers bring an offense into the tournament that put up a GSC-best 112 points and 138 shots on goal for the season.
 
Match number one will be between West Florida and Shorter at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at Longabaugh Field. MC will square off against West Alabama following match number one at 2:00 p.m. The winners of each match will move on to play each other on Sunday, Nov. 6 in the Championship game at 1:00 p.m.
