Early Goal Not Enough as Choctaws Fall at Delta State, 3-1

CLEVELAND, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team jumped out to an early lead, but Delta State came back to pick up a 3-1 victory in the Gulf South Conference opener on Wednesday afternoon at Delta Field.

The Choctaws (0-4, 0-1 GSC) struck quickly as junior Kendall Carballo scored his second goal of the season in the 7th minute on an assist from senior Dyllon Beasley. Both teams would see opportunities the remainder of the first half, but MC would take the lead into the break.

The Statesmen (1-3, 1-0 GSC) scored the equalizer in the 57th minute when Jaxon Lambert found the back of the net on an assist from Daniel Deblaere.

The match would remain tied over the next 20 minutes until DSU drew a penalty kick in the 78th minute, which was converted by Amine Rahmani. The score from the spot would prove to be the eventual game-winner.

The Statesmen would tack on another goal in the 88th minute when Ryan Pickup scored on an assist from Deblaere.

Choctaw goalkeeper Humberto Pelaez made two saves in the match, while Jacob Hauenstein made three saves for DSU.

The Choctaws will be back in action this Saturday when they will host Spring Hill at 4:00 p.m. at Longabaugh Field.
