Lady Choctaws Host Division I Jackson State on Friday

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team will host Division I Jackson State on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Longabaugh Field.

The Lady Choctaws (2-0, 1-0 GSC) are coming off their first Gulf South Conference win of the 2015 season over rival Delta State, 4-1. The Lady Statesmen got on the board first with a second half goal by Bailey Saebi in the 49th minute. The Lady Choctaws came righ back as junior Sydney Oliver (kingwood, Texas) scored her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute. Senior Sayit Mejia Bello (Bogota, Colombia) tallied the next two goals in the 56th minute and off a penalty kick in the 69th minute. Freshman Gaylynn Cooper (Jackson, Miss.) then brought the score to 4-1 when she hit the back of the net in the 84th minute of play. MC has now outscored their opponents 11-1 in the first two games of the season.

The Lady Choctaws attack is led by Mejia Bello who has posted three goals with two assists this season. The offensive line runs deep as MC has three players who have scored two goals each including Cooper, Jess Davenport (Widness, England) and Lauren Smith (Birmingham, Ala.).

A strong defensive line including senior Meghan Dodge (Palm Harbor, Fla.) and junior Madison Leonard (Cantonment, Fla.) have allowed just ten shots by their opponents. Freshman Andrea McDonald (New Orleans, La.) has played all 180 minutes between the posts for the Lady Choctaws, making four saves and allowing just one goal.

This will be the third all-time meeting between MC and Jackson State (2-3-1) as the Lady Tigers came to Clinton back in 2002 and the Lady Choctaws had their second biggest win in school history, 13-0.  Kemily Weimer and Megan Tubman each had hat tricks as nine different players scored for MC.

Last season the Lady Choctaws fell to JSU in a close 3-2 match. Macey Lee (Pearl, Miss.) had both scores for the Lady Choctaws. However, the Lady Tigers got an early lead as Elexis Rice scored two goals in the first four minutes of play and eventually pulled off a hat trick in the 76th minute of play.

Jackson State's, Kalen Roberts and Kamri Brown lead the Lady Tiger's offense with one goal each. JSU has been out shot by their opponents 100-57.

In goal Faith Toennies and Kylie Christian have split time between the posts each allowing four goals. Toennies has made thirty saves with Christian making 15 saves so far this season.
