CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team dropped a tight match to #40 Shorter University, 5-4, on Friday afternoon at the MC Tennis Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (7-8, 3-6 GSC) opened the day with two wins in doubles action as sophomore
Courtney Schrock and freshman
Brenna Keller picked up a 9-7 win at #2.
The freshman team of
Karly Matthews and
Katie Reid gave MC the lead going into singles play, winning the #3 doubles match in a tie-break, 9-8 (10-8).
In singles action, Matthews gave the Lady Choctaws another point, winning the #6 match in straight sets over Mary Emily Corbin (6-4, 6-1).
Keller won a tight three-set match against Daniela Chipe at #4, bouncing back from a first-set loss to win 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-1.
The Lady Hawks (12-4, 7-1 GSC) would come back to win the final four singles matches in straight sets to pick up the Gulf South Conference win.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday when they will host North Alabama at 2:00 p.m.
