SOFTBALL PREVIEW: West Georgia

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team will welcome the University of West Georgia to the MC Softball Complex for a three-game series, beginning Saturday with a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. The teams will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

The Lady Choctaws are led by head coach Brooke O'Hair, who is in her 9th season at the helm and collected her 200th career win last season. The Lady Wolves are led by 7th-year head coach Mandy Morgan.

MC is coming off a series split with #7 Alabama Huntsville, opening with a 6-3 win, while UAH took the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, 8-1. The series finale on Sunday got rained out and MC's mid-week road contests at Stillman were postponed due to weather.

Junior Carlie Sargent (6-1, 1.31 ERA) earned her second NCCAA National Pitcher of the Week honor after holding the nationally-ranked Chargers to three earned runs over a complete-game effort. She leads the team with her six victories and has a team-high 35 strikeouts.

Senior Brooke Smitherman (.459) is the team's leading hitter, also ranking second on the team with 17 hits and seven RBI. The right-handed slugger also leads the team with 12 base on balls.

Junior Madison Oliver (.415) played last weekend at shortstop after an injury to Lauren Mulligan. She ranks second on the team in hitting and leads the team with five doubles. Her 17 hits and eight runs scored are second on the team.

Senior Shay Mickens (.353) leads the team with eight stolen bases, while senior Macey Lee (.262) is just behind with six swipes. Senior Tori Bankston leads the team with two home runs, while junior Ashley Subervielle has a team-high eight runs batted in.

The Lady Wolves come into the weekend having won six of their last eight games, including series victories over West Alabama and Lee in their last two conference tilts.

Katie Shultes (3-2, 4.06 ERA) and Danielle Easterly (5-5, 5.09 ERA) have pitched 95.0 of the 117.0 innings for the UWG. Easterly leads the team with 33 strikeouts, while Shultes has a team-high three saves.

Amanda Voyles (.407) leads the team in hitting and RBI (15), while also tying for the team-lead with 22 hits. Jordan Corbin has a team-high four home runs, while Voyles and Randi Phillips each have three long balls.

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SERIES
The Lady Choctaws are 7-3 all-time against the Lady Wolves, but the teams have not met since the 1995 season, a 4-1 win for UWG. The teams have only played in Clinton one time with MC picking up an 8-0 victory in 1993.
