SOFTBALL PREVIEW: Centenary (La.)

SHREVEPORT, La. --- The Mississippi College softball team will hit the road for a mid-week doubleheader with Centenary College (La.) on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at the CC Softball Complex.

Due to an extremely wet month of March and games being canceled due to rain and weather, MC and Centenary added this doubleheader earlier this week.

This will not be the first meeting between these two schools as MC is 5-0 all-time against the Ladies. They played a single game back in 1989 with the Lady Choctaws winning 5-3, but Centenary returned to Clinton in 2012 for a four-game series with MC sweeping, shutting out CC in three

The Lady Choctaws (15-10) come into the games off a Gulf South Conference road series win at West Alabama. MC won the opener, 12-3, but the Tigers bounced back with a 9-2 win to knot the series. In the finale, the teams went back and forth and in extra innings, MC held on for the 15-13 victory.

Sophomore Megan Everett was a major reason why the Lady Choctaws won the finale, going 4-for-6 with two doubles, a triple, two runs scored and five RBI. The Pearland, Texas native is now hitting .384 with a team-high 24 RBI on the season.

Senior Karla Beth Hux had a big weekend at UWA, 6-for-10 with three RBI and three runs scored. The Bogue Chitto native hit her second home run of the season in the series victory.

Senior Brooke Smitherman (.424) remains the team's leading hitter, while senior Shay Mickens (.365) leads the way with 25 runs scored and 17 stolen bases.

In the circle, junior Carlie Sargent is MC's team-leader in wins (11), innings pitched (83.0) and strikeouts (73). Senior Elissa Kelly finished off the final three outs of the finale against West Alabama.

The Ladies (5-11) come into the twin-bill losing six straight games, including being swept in four by Southwestern (TX) last weekend. Centenary is a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Association in Division III.

Morgan Daigle (.381) is the team's leading hitter and has a team-high 10 runs scored. Anna Dunn (.378) leads the team in hits (17) and doubles (6), while Cadie Hancock (.364) has a team-high 14 RBI.

Haley Miller (3-2, 6.35 ERA) and Laura Perilloux (1-6, 8.67 ERA) are the team's top two starting pitchers.
