KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team opens the National Christian College Athletic Association championships as the #1 overall seed on Monday (Nov. 30) at the Austin-Tindall Regional Park.
The Lady Choctaws (12-3-3) qualified for the tournament as the representative from the MidEast Region, and earned the #1 seed after leading the field in Longo Rating.
The tournament features two 4-team pools, with the winner of each advancing to the national championship game on Saturday, December 5th.
The MC offense has outscored opponents 43-13 on the season, putting up 31 second-half goals in 18 matches. They shut out 10 opponents on the season, including four straight matches from October 4-16.
The Lady Choctaws have not played a competitive match since October 30th, a 2-1 loss to North Alabama. Head coach
Darryl Longabaugh's squad went 6-2-1 in their final nine matches, including their second five-match winning streak of the season.
Freshman
Jess Davenport is MC's leading scorer, posting 11 goals and three assists (25 pts) in just 11 matches. Sophomore
Caitlin Hayes has scored seven goals from the back line, while seniors
Sayit Mejia Bello and
Meghan Dodge have tallied a team-high seven assists apiece.
Freshman goalkeeper
Andrea McDonald has played all but 120 minutes between the pipes this season, setting a school record with nine shutouts and allowing just a 0.73 goals against average.
