Lady Choctaws Drop Heartbreaker to North Alabama 2-1

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team dropped to North Alabama, 2-1, on Friday afternoon at Longabaugh Field.

The Lady Choctaws (12-3-3, 5-4 GSC) celebrated senior day prior to the match and honored four players stepping on the field for their last regular season game. They recognized Robin Cooper, Meghan Dodge, Sayit Mejia Bello, and Eri Unai.

MC got on the board first as freshman Jess Davenport (Widness, England) tallied her 11th goal of the season off an assist by junior Sydney Oliver (Kingwood, Texas) in the 19th minute of play to take the lead into the half, 1-0.

The Lions (13-2-1, 9-2 GSC) got on the board in the 70th minute to tie the game 1-1 with an unassisted goal by Chloe Richards.

The match would go into overtime, and after a scoreless first period, North Alabama scored the game-winner with four seconds remaining when Richards scored her second goal of the game off an assist by Eleanor Costello.

Cooper made five saves in the match and freshman Andrea McDonald (New Orleans, La.) recorded two saves. The Lions goalie Shelby Thornton posted five saves.
