CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team will host two Gulf South Conference matches this weekend as they face Shorter on Friday and Lee on Sunday at Longabaugh Field with both starts at 1:00 p.m.
The Lady Choctaws (8-1-3, 4-1-2 GSC) now sit just a win or draw away from qualifying for the National Christian College Athletic Association MidEast Region Tournament to be held in November.
MC's offense is a balanced effort as a number of players have contributed to the 32 goals posted this season. Freshman
Jess Davenport (Widenss, England) leads the scoring effort, tallying seven goals with two assists. Sophomore
Caitlin Hayes (Warrington, England) has tallied 13 points on the season with six header goals and one helper.
Senior
Sayit Mejia Bello (Bogota, Colombia) has posted four finishes with five helpers while junior
Sydney Oliver (Kingwood, Texas) has put five in the back of the net with one assist.
MC's defense is a force to be reckoned with as they have kept their opponents to just eight goals over 12 games. Leading the back line is senior
Meghan Dodge (Palm Harbor, Fla.), junior
Madison Leonard (Cantonment, Fla.), Hayes and freshman
Lauren Dodge (Palm Harbor, Fla.). The defense has recorded seven goals with 11 helpers to help contribute to the offense's success.
In goal for the Lady Choctaws in freshman
Andrea McDonald (New Orleans, La.) who has helped the defense post three straight shutouts, not allowing a single goals since the 76th minute of a 2-2 tie against West Georgia on October 2nd, a span of 342 total minutes. McDonald has recorded seven shutouts, with 33 saves and has posted a 0.63 goals against average on the season, which would rank third in MC history.
In the 2014 season, MC faced Shorter (5-7, 2-5 GSC) in Rome, Ga. and dropped the match 1-0. The Hawks took the lead in the 8th minute of play off a penalty kick converted by Fiorella Gamarra. The Lady Choctaws had a chance in the 59th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick but they could not finish allowing Shorter to hold on to the shutout victory. The match was competitive as Shorter outshot MC 11-10.
The Hawks offense has put in 17 goals on the season. Jen Rogers leads the attack with six finishes and two helpers. Amber Miller has converted two goals with three helpers while Tabea Kirchner and Corrie Thomas have posted three goals apiece. In goal for Shorter is Alden Powell who has posted a 1.51 goals against average with 42 saves and four shutout victories.
Last season, Lee (7-3-2, 6-1 GSC) took the win 1-0 against MC as Kinsey Cichowitz found the back of the net in the 49th minute for the only goal of the match.
The Lady Flames offense has converted 20 goals on the season with Summer Lanter leading the team with five finishes and two assists. Kinsey Cichowitz and has put in three goals with two helpers while Mia Hollingsworth has converted three scores with one assist. In goal for Lee is Haley Gribler with a 1.25 goals against average, making 36 saves with three shutout victories.
