Men's Soccer Named Host of the NCCAA MidEast Region Tournament

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team has earned the right to host the National Christian College Athletic Association MidEast Regional on Friday, November 21st and Saturday, November 22nd at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.

The Choctaws (11-5) will face Campbellsville (13-6) on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m., while Bluefield College (11-7-1) will play Lee (8-8-2) at 2:00 p.m. The winner of each match will advance to the championship game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Leading the Choctaw offense is senior Brian Vasquez (Houston, Texas) with six goals and 15 assists, giving him 35 career helpers to set the best mark in school history. Senior Stephen Roberson (Madison, Miss.) leads the team with eight goals and has helped on six others. Senior Francisco DeAnda (El Paso, Texas) has put seven in the back of the net and recorded five assists. The Choctaw offense has tallied 43 goals on the season.

The Choctaw defense is led by senior Josh Barrera (Houston, Texas), who has tallied three goals on the season including the game-winning goal in the victory over West Alabama. In goal for the Choctaws is freshman Humberto Pelaez with 50 saves and a 1.70 goals against average. He has faced 165 shots and has tallied five shutouts on the season.

Campbellsville (11-6, 5-2 MSC) has put in 74 goals this season. Leading the Tiger offense is Marcelo Petit, tallying 20 goals with 4 helpers. Roraigh Yearwood has placed 13 in the net and assisted on 5 others. Josh Hollis is in goal for the Tigers, making 47 saves on the season with a 1.480 goals against average.

Lee (Tenn.) (8-8-2, 2-6-1 GSC) has tallied 26 goals this season. A balanced effort has led their offense, as Quade Marinell tallies 5 goals and 6 helpers and David Perez has recorded 6 goals and 3 assists. In goal for the Flames is Tom Halsall who has faced 166 shots with 64 saves and .80 goals against average. Halsall tallies four shutouts on the 2014 season.

Blue Field College (11-7-1, 5-3-1 AAC) has tallied 48 goals on the season. The Badgers offense is led by Benji Slator who has found the back of net 12 times and contributed to three other goals. Dean Johnson has tallied 10 goals with nine assists. Between the posts for Blue Field is Jefferson Watson who has tallied 71 saves with a 1.560 goals against average.

The winner of the NCCAA MidEast Regional will advance to the 9-team national tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. December 1st-6th.
