CARROLLTON, Ga. --- The Mississippi College football team wrapped up a two-game road swing with a 55-14 loss to the University of West Georgia on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium.
For the second straight week, the Choctaws (1-7, 0-5 GSC) set a season-high in total offensive yards with 337, including a season-high 223 rushing yards on 45 carries. Junior
Chris Ingram led the attack with 78 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown, while sophomore
James Banks had 75 yards on five carries, with a game-high 42-yard run.
The Wolves (7-2, 3-2 GSC) jumped out to a 21-0 lead with two passing touchdowns and a rushing score, but freshman quarterback
Kyle Smith found Banks for a 33-yard touchdown pass with 9:11 left in the second quarter. UWG would score again to push the lead to 28-0, but the MC defense forced a missed field goal as time expired and the Wolves took a 28-7 lead into the half.
The Choctaw defense, which forced two turnovers on downs in the first quarter, was led by freshman
Kaleb Coleman with a season-high 14 tackles, including eight solo stops. Junior linebacker
Seth McDonald and freshman defensive end
Brannon Schaffer each tallied sacks for MC in the contest.
In the second half, West Georgia would push the lead out to 41-7 before the Choctaws would embark on an 8-play, 80-yard drive that finished with a 1-yard touchdown run from Ingram to cut into the lead.
West Georgia would finish the game off with two touchdown runs bv Lane Thompson as the Wolves would carry the ball 55 times for 400 yards and four scores. They also passed for 246 yards and four touchdowns in the game.
The Choctaws will be back in action next Saturday for their final home game of the season when they host West Alabama at 3:00 p.m. at Robinson-Hale Stadium. The game is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN3.
