FLORENCE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team closed out the 2014 season with a 3-0 loss to the University of North Alabama on Friday night.
The Lady Choctaws (9-8-1, 4-7-1 GSC) saw nine seniors (
Melanie Benner,
Kaileigh Hunt,
Kaitlyn Kiss,
Macey Lee,
Nicole McKissack,
Lauren Prescott,
Nikki Rhea,
Stephanie Stapleton and
Alex Vohs) and junior
Becca Dupuy finish up their careers following the match. Lee is MC's all-time leader with 137 points and tied the MC record with 58 goals scored, Benner ends her time as a Lady Choctaw as the all-time assist leader with 31.
The Lions (12-2-1, 9-2 GSC) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 30th minute when Danielle Scanlon found the back of the net for the first time this season on an assist from Chloe Richards. The two teams would go into the half with UNA holding the 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, Richards scored her NCAA Division II-leading 26th goal of the season in the 61st minute on assists from Beatriz Fernandes and Scanlon. Eleanor Costello closed out the scoring with her third goal of the season on another assist by Richards in the 76th minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Melanie Hummert made a career-high 10 saves in net for the Lady Choctaws, while Rachel Beninati pitched the shutout for UNA with three saves.
For the Lady Choctaws, they finished with a winning record for the 16th straight season and finished their first season in the Gulf South Conference above .500.
