Matthews played a pivotal role in the Lady Choctaw’s dramatic 65-63 victory over conference foe Valdosta State on Saturday. The freshman guard scored 13 of MC’s 17 points off of the bench in the ballgame, a career-high for the Bogue Chitto native. Matthews went 1-2 from beyond the arc, while also accounting for an assist and a steal in the game.
The Lady Choctaws (9-6, 6-5 GSC) , winners of six of their last seven, have knocked off two of the top three teams in the conference in back-to-back weeks; with victories over North Alabama on Jan.14, and Valdosta State on Jan. 21. MC will hit the road this week for a two-game slate, traveling to North Alabama on Thursday, and Alabama Huntsville on Saturday.
