Senior wide receiver Marcel Newson returned four punts for 93 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown sprint in the fourth quarter that gave the Choctaws a 41-35 lead over #17 Valdosta State. Newson also caught seven passes for 114 yards and a 4th-quarter touchdown that tied the game 35-35. The Coldwater, Miss. native punted once for 37 yards.

Newson leads the Gulf South Conference in all-purpose yards (173.8) per game and ranks 2nd in receiving yards (108.0) per game.

The Choctaws are back in action Saturday when they travel to Carrollton, Ga. to face the University of West Georgia at 1:00 p.m. (CT).
