The Mississippi College softball team won five straight home games this week bringing their overall record to 11-8 and their Gulf South Conference record to 3-6.
Freshman Cheyenne Mathews (Hendersonville, N.C.) went 3-for-4 in the doubleheader against Millsaps. In the second game, she had one double, one homerun, three RBI’s and one run.
Against West Alabama, in the second game of the series, Mathews had one double, a homerun, three RBI’s and one run. In the last game of the series, she had a solo homerun to lead off the sixth inning, which put the Lady Choctaws ahead for the 5-4 win and series sweep of West Alabama.
On the week, Mathews had a batting average of .500 and a slugging percentage of 1.083 with seven RBI’s and two runs.

So far this season, Mathews finishes third on the team with a batting average of .396 and she comes up second on the team with 15 RBI’s. Matthews has tallied 19 hits with two doubles and two homeruns.

The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Rome, Ga. to face Shorter for a three-game series, beginning Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
