Junior Marcel Newson (Coldwater, Miss.) caught eight passes for 133 yards and two scored against #13 North Alabama on Saturday at Braly Municipal Stadium.
After UNA jumped out to a 7-0 lead with a touchdown on their opening drive, sophomore quarterback Kyle Smith and the offense answered as he found Newson with a 31-yard touchdown pass on 3rd-and-17 with 4:13 remaining in the first quarter. Newson's diving catch in the corner of the end zone capped off a 14-play drive that took over eight minutes.
Just when it looked like the Choctaw would go into the half with a two touchdown deficit, Smith found Newson on a screen pass, and the shifty wideout did the rest of the work, sprinting in the end zone to cut the score to 21-14.
The Choctaws will be back in action next Saturday when they will host Belhaven at 7:00 p.m. at Robinson-Hale Stadium.
