Emma Young is a 2021-22 Gulf South Conference Top Ten finalists.
Young becomes the third consecutive Choctaw to garner the honor and the fourth overall on the women's side since the school returned to Division II and the conference. She looks to become the second women's student-athlete to gain the Commissioner's Trophy as former women's soccer standout, Katie Taylor, claimed the award in 2020. Along with Taylor, Young joins the list with former two-sport student-athlete, Andrea McDonald (women's soccer and track and field), and Tytavia Hardy (track and field).
Young helped lead Mississippi College to the NCAA tournament for the third time during her career, as the Choctaws compiled a 12-4-2 mark and 10-3 in the GSC. A constant leader, the senior changed positions during the offseason as she transitioned from midfield to a defender, where she started every match for the Navy and Gold. She earned United Soccer Coaches First-Team All-American laurels during the campaign as well as being a two-time all-South Region selection. The GSC Defensive Player of the Year and first-team all-conference selection also landed on the 2021 GSC All-Academic Team and Honor Roll.
The Lafayette, La., native has also helped make an impact on the Clinton and Jackson-metro community. She has volunteered with service projects at Camp Pioneer, the Hap Hudson 5K run and at Community Animal Rescue and Adoption. She also helped organize relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Laura.
