Senior Zariah Matthews has been named the Mississippi College Merit Health Female Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday (Jan. 27).
Matthews (Bogue Chitto, Miss.) averaged 20.0 points, including scoring a career-high 28 against UAH, over a road week against Lee and the Chargers.
She went a combined 17-of-21 (81%) from the free throw line, including 12-of-15 in the tight loss to UAH on Saturday. The 28 points marks the fourth time this season she has topped the 20-point plateau and gives her eight straight games with double-figure scoring.
On the season, Matthews is averaging 14.7 points per game and is shooting 46% from the floor and 41% from the three-point line. She also has a team-high 81 assists and is shooting 75% from the charity stripe.
Matthews and the Lady Choctaws will host Lee (Jan. 30) and UAH (Feb. 1) in A.E. Wood Coliseum this coming week.
