Junior Winceton Edwards has been named the Mississippi College Merit Health Male Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday (Jan. 13).

Edwards (Meridian, Miss.) averaged 20.5 points per game and shot 47% from the floor over a pair of road losses to Valdosta State and West Florida last weekend.

He opened the week with a 22-point performance against the Blazers, going 7-of-16 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line with three assists and two rebounds. Edwards followed that up with 19 points on 9-of-18 shooting with three rebounds and two steals.

The Jones County JC transfer is leading the squad with 14.0 points per game and is shooting 42% from the field and 34% from the three-point line.

The Choctaws will be back at home this week to host Christian Brothers (Jan. 16) and Union (Jan. 18).
