Junior Winford Ross has been named the Mississippi College Merit Health Male Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday (Jan. 6).
Ross (Durant, Miss.) averaged 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds over a 1-1 week for the Choctaws that saw them snap a three-game losing streak with a 79-69 win over Shorter on Saturday.
In the win over the Hawks, Ross scored a season-high 24 points, going 7-of-13 from the field and 10-of-12 from the three throw line. On Thursday, in a loss to West Georgia, he tallied his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
For the season, Ross is averaging 12.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, and he ranks 2nd on the team in field goal percentage (.500). He also leads the Gulf South Conference with 2.9 blocked shots per game and has four of the top five single-game block totals this season, including seven in the win over Shorter.
The Choctaws will be back on the road this weekend when they take the long road trip to face Valdosta State (Jan. 9) and West Florida (Jan. 11).
