Senior Detric Hawthorn has been named Mississippi College Merit Health Male Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday (Nov. 18).
Hawthorn (Collins, Miss.) helped lead the Choctaws to a 37-13 victory over Delta State in the season finale, bringing the Heritage Bell Trophy back to Clinton for the first time since 1993.
He rushed for a team-high 75 yards on 13 carries, scoring a pair of touchdowns on the ground. The Jones County JC transfer also completed three passes for 28 yards and a score.
On the season, Hawthorn led the Choctaws with 538 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns, also passing for four scores on the season. He finished his career with 1,502 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns.
Hawthorn and the Choctaws wrapped up the 2019 season with the dominating win over their rivals, securing the first undefeated season at home for MC Football since 1988.
