Sophomore Alisa Morozova has been named the Mississippi College Renasant Bank Female Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday (Oct. 29).
Morozova (Yaroslavl, Russia) took home the title in the Gulf South Conference Fall Women's Tennis Open Flight A Championship, grabbing a thrilling five-set victory over Svenja Petri from Auburn Montgomery in the title match (7-5, 2-6, 10-8).
She won all four of her matches in three sets, opening things with a victory over Estee Widdershoven (6-3, 4-6, 8-5) from Valdosta State. She then defeated Emily Beatty (1-6, 6-2, 10-8) in the second round before taking Francesca Tondi (4-6, 6-4, 9-7) from Lee down in the semi-finals.
Morozova and the Lady Choctaws open the 2019 season on March 9th when they travel to Carrollton, Ga. to face the University of West Georgia.
