Junior Makenzie Nieto has been named the Mississippi College Wright & Ferguson Female Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday (March 19).
Nieto (New Hudson, Mich.) helped lead the Lady Choctaws to a doubleheader split with #21 West Florida, coming off the bench to hit a pinch-hit grand slam in the fifth inning of a 10-4 win.
Nieto took the first pitch she saw over the left field wall and onto the adjacent baseball field to put the score out of reach. On the season, she is hitting .300 with three doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI, including another pinch-hit home run in the series win over Lee last weekend.
Nieto and the Lady Choctaws are scheduled to be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Jackson, Tenn. for a doubleheader against Lane College. They will then travel to face #6 North Alabama in a three-game series this weekend.
