PUEBLO, Colo. — Mississippi College's Track and Field team left an indelible mark at the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. In a blistering display of athleticism, the Men's 4x400m relay team - Fabio Palmieri, Connor Stewart, Gabe Hodson, and Niklas Klei - carved out a new school record, hurtling across the finish line in a breathtaking 3:07.90. This means that each relay leg averaged a phenomenal sub-47-second 400m performance.
The Choctaws, demonstrating exceptional team cohesion and athletic prowess, surged to a phenomenal fourth-place finish in the event. This grand triumph is the highest the college has ever achieved in this event at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The men's team didn't stop there. They powered their way to an overall 19th place finish, marking yet another historic achievement as the highest-ever team finish for the men's team at these esteemed Championships.
Coach Matthew Reneker reflected on these monumental feats, emphasizing the deeper significance of the team's success, "These achievements are indeed outstanding, but what truly sets our team apart is the love of Jesus Christ that we share and display, both towards each other and those around us. We compete with heart, unity, and a higher purpose, which we hope is evident in our conduct and performances."
In another groundbreaking accomplishment, the men's program made Mississippi College history by finishing in the top-20 at the national championships in Cross Country, Indoor Track and Field, and Outdoor Track and Field. This hat trick of top-20 finishes is a testament to the relentless dedication, resilience, and mutual support fostered within the team.
