BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Today, Mississippi College Track and Field proudly salutes two of its outstanding student-athletes, Al Ferrill and Brandon Williams, as they receive the esteemed Gulf South Conference (GSC) Athlete of the Week Honors. Al Ferrill has been crowned GSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, his fifth recognition just this outdoor season, while fellow Choctaw Brandon Williams takes home the GSC Men's Freshman of the Week accolade.
Brandon Williams, a freshman hailing from Senatobia, Miss., displayed incredible talent as middle-distance athlete over the weekend. At the Georgia Tech Invitational, Williams excelled as an alternate in the Men's 4x400m relay. His impressive 48.5-second split on the second leg played a pivotal role in the Choctaws' triumphant victory. Further showcasing his remarkable potential, Williams also set a new personal record in the open 400m, clocking in at 49.19 seconds. This achievement secures his position as the No. 2 ranked freshman in the Gulf South Conference.
Al Ferrill, the formidable force in field events, continued his reign at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Ferrill's performances in the Men's Shot Put (SP), Discus, and Hammer Throw events left all other NCAA Division II competitors in the dust. His prowess in the field has cemented him as the top overall thrower in the GSC, ranking first in SP and second in both Discus and Hammer Throw events.
As the 2023 GSC Track and Field Championships approach, Mississippi College's track and field team looks forward to outstanding performances from both Williams and Ferrill, as well as the entire squad. Their relentless pursuit of success, breaking barriers and setting new benchmarks of excellence, serves as a testament to the high-quality athletic program and the coaching staff's steadfast commitment to nurturing and guiding these talented student-athletes.
