BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Mississippi College Track and Field team had a successful start to their indoor season, earning three Gulf South Conference (GSC) Performers of the Week honors.

Kelechi Christian, a sophomore from Lagos, Nigeria, was named the GSC Women's Track performer of the week after running two provisional and Gulf South Conference leading marks at the Samford Open. In the 60-meter dash, Christian placed third overall with a time of 7.64 seconds, which now leads the Gulf South Conference and is ranked No. 32 in NCAA Division II. She also won the 200-meter race with a time of 24.55 seconds, which also leads the Gulf South Conference and is ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II. Christian also broke the Mississippi College Women's Indoor Track and Field record in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash.

Jan Lukas Becker, a junior from Germany, was named the GSC Men's Track performer of the week after winning the Men's 5,000-meter run at the Samford Open in a provisional mark of 14:00.2. With that performance, Becker is now the fastest performer in Mississippi College Men's Track and Field history in that event. He is now ranked No. 9 in NCAA Division II and also leads the Gulf South Conference in the Men's 5,000.
