Akers and Choi Awarded Wright & Ferguson Athletes of the Week

CLINTON, Miss. --- Kaleigh Akers and Force Choi have been chosen as the Wright & Ferguson Athletes of the Week.
 
Akers became the first Lady Choctaw cross country runner to earn All-Gulf South Conference honors and the first to claim all-conference laurels since Jennifer Cooper finished third at the American Southwest Conference Championships in 2012. The Daphne, Ala, native posted a collegiate best, 5K time of 19:07.0 to finished 11th at the GSC Championships, which earned her Second Team All-GSC.
 
The MC cross country teams qualified for NCAA Division II South Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 5 in St. Leo, Fla.
 
Choi posted a first place finish at The Buccaneer hosted by Christian Brothers on Oct. 17-18, compiling a three round total of 229. The freshman from Macau, China helped lead the Choctaws to a second place team finish at the two-day even in Germantown, Tenn.  Choi was selected a member of the All-Tournament team as a result of his tournament-leading score.
 
The MC golf team is in action today at the Matt Dyas Invitational hosted by the University of West Georgia. The two-day tournament is the third of the fall season for the Choctaws.
 
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC is recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
 
The athletic department sponsors 17 intercollegiate athletic programs: Baseball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Football, Golf, Men's and Women's Soccer, Softball, Men's and Women's Tennis, Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field, Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field and Volleyball.
