BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The Mississippi College track and field teams opened their 2016 slate at the Birmingham Southern-hosted Indoor Icebreaker at the Birmingham CrossPlex on Friday.
"I thought we did well for our first of the year. We wanted them to come in and get at least one event in each. Even though we counted this as a reward meet for their practice time in the fall, a lot of them came through with some personal best performances," said head coach
Butch Ard. "We didn't set the world on fire with how we did here today, but we are well ahead of where we were last year at this time. This will give them something to build on for the Christmas break, to come back in January ready for our next indoor meet."
On the men's side, A.B. Williams finished third in the shot put. The freshman from Benton, Miss., recorded a distance of 11.31 meters.
Daniel Burnett finished ninth in the men's mile as the Gulfport, Miss., junior posted a time of 4:41.87. Freshman Oliver Kjeldsen recorded a time of 51.40 in the 400 meter dash to clinch 13th.
Shawn Robertson finished 24th in the event with a time of 52.99
