CLINTON, MS - Head volleyball coach Peter Cosmiano has announced the addition of Lauren Markle as the graduate assistant for the team heading into the 2010 season. Markle comes to MC after a five-year playing career at the University of Montevallo.
Markle played five seasons as a middle hitter for the Falcons, missing the 2006 season due to an injury. In her senior season, Lauren finished third in the Peach Belt Conference with an attack percentage of .254. Markle was also named the 2009-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the volleyball team.
Markle played club volleyball for Illini Elite out of Bloomington, IL for four years.
Markle played high school volleyball at Peoria Notre Dame High School, where she led the conference in blocks and led her team to a Mid State 6 Conference Championship.
Lauren is pursuing her MBA at Mississippi College. She is the daughter of Ann Marie and Randy Markle and has a brother, Justin.
"We are excited to have Lauren in our volleyball family at MC. Her club, Illini Elite, is a sister program to one of the top Junior Olympic clubs in the country, Sports Performance-Chicago, which is widely know for their training methods and competitiveness. Her experiences from playing at Montevallo and coaching club ball in Birmingham have also prepared her to assist in taking our program to the championship level. She will primarily be responsible for individual offense and blocking. I'm looking forward to working with Lauren and watching her develop as a coach." - Coach Peter Cosmiano
