CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College baseball team enjoyed one of the finest seasons in school history in 2010 and were ranked 15th in the final D3baseball.com Poll. The Choctaws finished the season with a school record 39 wins and advanced to the West Region Championship Game in McMinnville, OR, just one game away from the Division III World Series. MC earned their highest ranking of the season after the 10th week when they reached #8.
The 2010 season saw head coach Brian Owens earn his 100th win in a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over Millsaps on April 20th. Senior outfielder
Bo Bell earned a Third Team All-American selection by D3baseball.com and was named ASC East Hitter of the Year. Senior
Tyler Seaman was named ASC East Pitcher of the Year after going 10-1 with a 3.19 ERA, striking out 85 batters over 101.2 innings pitched.
The Choctaws placed 12 players on All-ASC East Division Teams, including five players named to the First Team (Bell, Seaman,
Dakota Bodree,
Shane Bennett, and
Stuart Magee).
Andy Smith,
Jarrod Cannette,
Terrell Prescott, and
Chris Ferriss earned Second Team selections, while
Chris Glaze,
Chase Herrin, and
Daniel Cowart earned Honorable Mention selections.
Offensively, the Choctaws broke several team records, including at-bats (1786), runs scored (456), hits (620), batting average (.347), doubles (114), triples (22), total bases (910), and runs batted in (397). MC also set pitching records in 2010, including strikeouts (351), wins (39), losses (11), and innings pitched (423.0).
The 2010 season also saw several career and single-season records go down. Bell now sits atop the career list for batting average, hitting .421 in his two-year career. Bell is also third in school history with 131 runs batted in. Chase Herrin is ranked fifth in school history with a .394 average. Brannon Walls is now tied for second in school history with 185 hits over his four-year career.
Three different Choctaw sit atop the single-season at-bats list with Andy Smith (206), Herrin (205), and Dakota Bodree (194). Herrin set the single-season record with 84 hits on the year, while Bell (74) and Smith (72) sit second and third in school history. Bell also tied the single-season mark with 19 doubles in 2010.
Tyler Seaman jumped into the pitching record books, finishing with 15 career wins, which ties him for seventh in school history. His 26 starts in two seasons ranks 10th all-time, while his 143 strikeouts ranks eighth.
Seaman is now the all-time leader with 16 starts in 2010 and is tied for second with 10 wins. The Pascagoula native is also ranked second in school history with 101.2 innings pitched and fourth with 85 strikeouts this year. Daniel Cowart set the single-season mark with 26 appearances on the year, clearing the previous mark of 23 by Dereck Tillman.
