2010 ASC Softball Awards
CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College softball team placed six players on the All-American Southwest Conference teams, following a division-only vote by head coach, the conference office announced on Wednesday (May 5).
Three Lady Choctaws earned All-ASC Second Team selections in junior
Jennifer Jones and seniors
Reagan Jackson and
Rachel Hurley. Jones led the team in the regular season with a .424 batting average. Jones also recorded eight doubles and 27 RBI, while starting every game for the third straight season. Jones is also now the single-season (24) and career leader (54) in stolen bases in MC history.
Jackson batted .323 with three doubles, two triples, one home run, and 20 RBI. Jackson also threw out 13 of 28 base stealers from behind the plate. Hurley hit .313 with five doubles and led the team with five triples and 31 RBI.
Juniors
Morgan Gillenwater and
Kasey Bomar joined freshman
Sarah Finch with Honorable Mention selections. Gillenwater hit .250 on the season, but did most of her damage at the end of the year leading the team with a .410 batting average, seven doubles, one triple, one home run, and 14 RBI over the final 16 games of the season.
Bomar finished second on the team with a .381 batting average and 17 stolen bases. Bomar collected five doubles and 15 RBI on the year. Finch led the team with three home runs while hitting .305 with seven doubles and four triples. Finch also drove in 27 runs on the year.
The Lady Choctaws finished the regular season, 29-11, and are possibly awaiting an invitation to the NCAA Tournament.
