PINEVILLE, LA - The Mississippi College softball team dropped the opening game of the NCAA Tournament, 3-1, to East Texas Baptist at Lady Wildcats Field on the campus of Louisiana College. The Lady Choctaws (29-12) committed four errors and allowed two unearned runs in the loss.
ETBU opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-run single by catcher Lya Swaner that scored Meghan Fisher and Stacy Havner. Fisher's run was unearned after reaching on an error in the frame.
The Lady Choctaws answered with a run in the third inning on an RBI groundout by freshman

MC had an opportunity to put runs on the board in the fifth inning when the first three batters reached base on a walk, hit-by-pitch, and an error. With the top of the lineup up, ETBU starter Alicia Wright struck out two batters looking and induced a flyout to end the frame.
The Lady Tigers added an insurance run in seventh after the Lady Choctaws made two errors.
MC put two runners on the in the bottom of the seventh inning before pinch-hitter
Jaime Bennett grounded out to second to end the game.
Wright picked up the complete game victory, allowing three hits and an earned run. Sophomore
Kim Mason (13-8) took the loss for the Lady Choctaws, giving up four hits and one earned run over seven innings.
The Lady Choctaws will play the host school Louisiana College at noon on Saturday in an elimination game for MC.
