CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College men's and women's track and field teams finished their 2010 home schedule at the Choctaw Open on Tuesday. While some of the athletes finished their year, some Choctaws and Lady Choctaws will move on to the NCAA Nationals in Cleveland, OH on May 27-29.
The Choctaws were led by
T.J. Pride, who cleared a jump of 16'7" on the pole vault, finishing just behind the school record of 16'8.75" held by Jason Williams.
"T.J. put together some great jumps today. He looked really good in all phases of his vaults. He has cleared 17' a few times in practice, but it was nice to see him finally put that together in a meet. He has a couple more meets before nationals, and I would like to see him break the 17' mark at one of them. That would give him some confidence as we go to the national meet."
"Today marked the end of the college career for several of the members of our track team. I kind of just let everyone pick some events they wanted to do, and let them have some fun. We had distance runners running sprints and competing in throwing events. It was no surprise that none of the sprinters wanted to do any distance events. This has been a great group to coach, and I wish them well as they move out into the 'real world'."
Three Mississippi College track members have provisionally qualified for the NCAA DIII national championships. Liz Laubenberg in the 100m hurdles (14.89) and 400m hurdles (63.04). Pride in the pole vault (16'6") and Deoante' Rivers 200m Dash (21.70) and Long Jump (23' 1.25")
