ASC Championship Results
ABILENE, TX - The Mississippi College men's and women's track and field teams finished fourth at the American Southwest Conference Championships on Saturday at Hardin-Simmons University. The men scored 77 points, while the women tallied 83.5 points.
The wind was a huge factor for all competitors in the meet with a constant 20-25 mph wind and gusts up to 30 mph.
On the second day of competition, Deoante' Rivers led the way with third-place finishes in the 100m dash (10.73) and the 200m dash (21.70). Both times are provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA Nationals.
The Choctaws took home the most hardware in the 800m run with MC taking four of the top five places.
Shane Brogdon (1:59.11) took first place with
Hunter Boykin (2:00.11) finishing just behind in second place.
Matt Shidler (2:04.43) and
Casey Keiser (2:07.74) took home fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Keiser also took home second place in the 1500m run with a time of 4:18.61.
T.J. Pride improved his NCAA provisional mark in the pole vault with a jump of 15'10.75" taking third place.
The women's team also had several solid performances, led by
Jennifer Cooper and
Liz Laubenberg. Cooper picked up victories in the 10,000m run (42:17) and the 5,000m run (20:05). Liz collected victories in the 100m hurdles (14:89) and 400m hurdles (1:05). Cooper and Laubenberg were each selected as Co-MVP's of the meet.
Ivy Price scored points for the Lady Choctaws with a second place finish in the 3000m Steeplechase (12:27) and a fourth-place finish in the 800m run (2:36).
Jessica Gails added points with fourth-place finishes in the 200m dash (25.6) and in the 400m run (1:01).
Abbey Kracke finished her collegiate career with a third-place finish in the pole vault (10'6").
