TYLER, TX - The Mississippi College softball team closed out the 2010 regular season with a doubleheader loss to #5 Texas-Tyler on Sunday afternoon at the UT Tyler Ballpark.  Coupled with the doubleheader split between East Texas Baptist and Louisiana College, the Lady Choctaws (29-11, 15-9 ASC) will fall just one game short of qualifying for the ASC Tournament.

The season may not be over for the Lady Choctaws as they have only lost one game on the year to a team outside of the top five teams in the country.  MC will now have to wait and see if their name gets called to the NCAA Regionals.

In the first game, Texas-Tyler jumped out to a 4-1 lead with the Lady Choctaws scoring their only run on an RBI infield single by senior Rachel Hurley that scored junior Jennifer Jones.

The Patriots would answer with three runs in the third inning to take a 7-1 lead, highlighted by a two-run single by Joey Cronin.

Senior Reagan Jackson drove in the other run for MC with an RBI on a fielder's choice in the sixth inning that scored Hurley.

Jones and junior Kasey Bomar led the way with two hits apiece in the first game

Sophomore Kim Mason took the loss for the Lady Choctaws, allowing four earned runs on only two hits in just 1.2 innings of work.

In the second game, the Patriots set the tone early again when Brittanni Hanna hit a three-run home run in the first inning to give Texas-Tyler a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Choctaws would remain scoreless until the fourth inning when Jackson recorded a two-run single that scored Hurley and freshman Sarah Finch.

The Patriots would add three more runs in the bottom of the inning on a three-run home run by Cronin.  The Lady Choctaws would not get any closer the rest of the way.

Six different Lady Choctaws recorded hits in the game, while Mason (13-7) collected her second loss of the day.
