TYLER, TX - The Mississippi College men's tennis team fell in the quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference Tournament to Howard Payne University, 5-3.
The Choctaws opened by winning two of the doubles matches with the #1 team of
Patrick Stanton and
John Downing winning 8-3 and the #2 team of
Cory Seay and
Jacob Womack winning, 8-5.
Walter Freeman and
Jerrod Rayborn dropped their doubles match, 8-6.
The singles matches started with Chris Sutton of HPU taking out Downing, 6-1, 6-0 and Womack winning at the #5 spot over Raymond Borjas, 7-5, 6-4. It would be the only singles match the Choctaws would win.
Ross Sidman of the Yellow Jackets would knot the match at three with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Freeman. Then Stanton would fall in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, to Edward Martinez at the #1 spot. The decisive match came down to the #6 spot where Rayborn fell to Will Thomas, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.
The Choctaws finished the season 11-5.
