CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College men's tennis team all but locked up the #2 seed in the American Southwest Conference East Division with a 7-2 victory over Texas-Dallas on Friday. The Choctaws would then drop their first match of the season in a hard fought battle with Texas-Tyler, 6-3, on Saturday.
The Choctaws would open the match against UTD by winning all three doubles matches, punctuated by a 9-7 victory by junior
Cory Seay and senior
Walter Freeman at the #3 position.
Senior
Patrick Stanton opened singles play with a dominating 6-0, 6-1 victory at the #1 position. Seay, freshman
Jacob Womack, and senior
Jerrod Rayborn each picked up singles victories.
In the match against Texas-Tyler, the Choctaws would only win one doubles match with Stanton and junior
John Downing win their match at the #1 position, 8-5.
In singles play, the entire match came down to Seay's match-up with Kevin Wright of the Patriots. After the junior from Warner Robbins, GA, took the first set, 6-3, Wright battled back to win the final two sets and clinch the match for Texas-Tyler.
The Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Louisiana College.
