CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College softball team bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 5-1 victory over Huntingdon on Friday night at the MC Softball Complex. The Lady Choctaws (11-1) opened the day with a 7-1 loss to Millsaps, their first defeat of the year.
In the loss to Millsaps, the Majors used the long ball to snap MC's 10-game win streak to open the season. Jennifer McKinley went 3-3 with three home runs and five RBI alone. Laura Litton added a home run in the sixth inning to give the Majors four for the game.
Junior
Kasey Bomar and senior
Rachel Hurley led the Lady Choctaw attack with two hits apiece. Senior
Jaime Bennett drove in the lone MC run of the game in the fourth inning that scored freshman
Sarah Finch.
Millsaps' starter, Kasey Thibodeaux kept the Lady Choctaws off balance all night with the complete game effort. Thibodeaux scattered six hits while striking out five.
Sophomore
Kim Mason took the loss for the Lady Choctaws, allowing three hits and three earned runs over 2.1 innings pitched.
The Lady Choctaws bounced back in a big way in the win over Huntingdon, scoring two runs in the first inning to set the tone. Junior
Jennifer Jones reached on a sacrifice bunt and came all the way around to score on two Hawks' errors. Bomar also scored on the play.
Huntingdon cut the lead in half in the fifth inning when Sarah Solomon scored on a double steal.
Freshman starter
Lindsey Morris pitched a complete game two-hitter to pick up her second win of the season compared to no losses. Morris struck out 11, while walking two in the game.
Bomar led the offense with three hits and two runs scored in the game, while Finch drove in two runs for MC.
Huntingdon and Millsaps also played each other in between the Lady Choctaws' games with the Hawks picking up a 6-5 victory.
The same three teams will face off tomorrow at Millsaps with the Lady Choctaws playing Huntingdon at 1:00 p.m. and Millsaps at 3:00 p.m.
