CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws (16-5, 11-5 ASC) withstood a late rally by the University of Texas at Dallas (15-6, 12-4 ASC) and came away with a 64-63 win over the Comets in A. E. Wood Coliseum.
The Lady Choctaws built a 62-52 lead with just under eight minutes to go, but Texas-Dallas cut into the lead in the final minutes. Two missed free throws by the Lady Choctaws on the front end of one-and-one situations in the final minute gave the Comets a chance for the win, but Chelsea Edwards' shot in the lane came up short.
Edwards finished with a game high 21 points to pace the Comet attack. But it wasn't enough to overcome a team effort from MC in which three different players scored in double figures. Anna Patterson scored a team high 18 points, Jennifer Wair scored 16 points and Randa Lee added 13 to go along with six steals.
Both teams shot the ball well from the floor, finishing 54% for the game. MC was 15-21 from the line while the Comets hit 7-11. Texas-Dallas was 6-13 from long range, the Lady Choctaws 3-7.
