MONTGOMERY, AL - The Mississippi College baseball team opened the 2010 season with a 5-2 victory over Huntingdon College on Saturday afternoon at Posey Field. Senior
Bo Bell hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to ice the victory for the Choctaws (1-0) over the Hawks (0-1).
The Hawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Drew Harrell scored on a passed ball. Kyle Eller homered to right field to give Huntingdon a 2-0 lead after one inning. Eller finished as the only player on either team with multiple hits.
The Choctaws got on the board in the top of the third inning when senior
Dakota Bodree tripled to drive in junior
Stuart Magee after he led off the frame with a single.
MC would take the lead in the fourth inning when Bell and junior
Shane Bennett scored on a throwing error off the bat of senior
Chris Glaze.
The Choctaws would never look back as they got a strong pitching performance from senior
Tyler Seaman, who went six innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs, while striking out six batters to pick up the victory. Junior
Daniel Cowart shut down the Hawks with a perfect two innings pitched, striking out two.
Alex Sanford started for the Hawks, allowing only three hits, but walking four while taking the loss. Sanford struck out seven batters in 5.0 innings pitched.
The Choctaws put the game away in the eighth inning when Bell hit the home run to right field to give MC a 5-2 lead.
Junior
Brock Campbell recorded the save for the Choctaws, allowing one hit and walking one in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Choctaws are scheduled to play Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. against Birmingham-Southern at Posey Field on the campus of Huntingdon.
