PINEVILLE, LA - The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws (19-7) lost 73-68 to Howard Payne University (21-5) Friday night in the opening round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament hosted by Louisiana College.

After a close first half, Howard Payne quickly took control of the game by opening a ten point lead at 50-40 midway through the second half. The lead moved to twelve before the Lady Choctaws made a comeback led by the inside play of Jennifer Wair and Jalessa Taylor. Wair led all scorers with 26 points, while Taylor scored 19 points and totaled 11 rebounds.

The Lady Choctaws pulled within 62-57 with 3:44 remaining in the game, but could not get any closer the rest of the way.

HPU was led by Hope Hohertz (19 points) and point guard Brittany Zamora (21 points, including 3-7 from the three-point line).

HPU has won the last three ASC Championship Tournaments.

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College basketball teams will wrap the "Make a Change in 14 Days" campaign with a "Play it Pink" doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against the University of Texas at Tyler.  The Lady Choctaws will face Texas-Tyler at 1:00 p.m. with the men to play in the "Golden Dome" at 3:00 p.m.  Donations will be accepted to support the fight against breast cancer and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the two games.
