CLINTON, MS - Mississippi College Head Baseball Coach Brian Owens recently announced the hiring of Jake Bell to the position of assistant baseball coach.
Last season as the graduate assistant on staff, Bell helped the Choctaws to the American Southwest Conference East Division Championship and a 30-16 overall record. He was instrumental in the Choctaws' dramatic improvement at the plate where the team average rose from .282 in 2008 to .337 in 2009. The Choctaws ranked 3rd in the ASC in batting average, 3rd in runs scored with 428 and set a new school record with 111 stolen bases.
As a player at Mississippi College, Bell enjoyed a record-setting career. He ranks 7th in MC history with a .374 batting average, 8th in doubles (31), 5th in homeruns (21), 5th in slugging percentage (.642) and 2nd in career stolen bases with 52. He also holds the single season record for stolen bases with 29.
He is married to the former Megan Beauman of Vicksburg, MS and together they have two-month-old daughter, Avery.
