D3baseball.com All-America Teams
CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College baseball program put a final stamp on the 2009 season with the news that junior outfielder
Bo Bell and senior pitcher
Brett Hinson each earned All-America honors from D3baseball.com. Bell was selected as a First Team All-American and Hinson as a Third Team. The duo helped lead the Choctaws to a 30-16 record that included an American Southwest Conference East Division Championship.
In addition to the All-America honors, Hinson and Bell also picked up ABCA-Rawlings First Team All-West Region honors with Hinson claiming West Region Pitcher of the Year. The All-Region teams are produced by the American Baseball Coaches Association and voted on by regional coaches.
Bell, a Gulfport, MS native and former Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College standout, batted .425 this year with 13 homeruns and 73 RBI. Bell's RBI total was the second most in the country this season and the second most in MC history. His 13 homers were the third most in MC history and his batting average was two points shy of the MC record in a season.
Hinson, a Vidalia, LA native and former standout at Mississippi Delta Community College, also enjoyed a record-setting season. Hinson posted a 10-2 record with an earned run average of 3.63. Hinson struck out 105 batters in 91 innings of work. Hinson's 10 wins were the second most in MC history and the most in the country through the conference tournaments. His 105 strikeouts were a new school record and the third most in the nation through the conference tournaments.
