Softball Finishes Season with 10th Straight Win

RICHARDSON, TX - The Mississippi College softball team finished the 2009 season with their 10th consecutive win after sweeping a doubleheader from UT-Dallas on Saturday afternoon.  The Lady Choctaws (22-17, 15-9 ASC) won the games by scores of 12-0 and 10-4.

In the first game, the Lady Choctaws collected 15 hits and capitalized on six Comet errors to score their 12 runs.  Five different players had at least two hits with Lauren Coleman leading the team with three. 

Kasey Bomar drove in three runs from the lead-off spot for MC, while Coleman drove in two.

Freshman Whitney Warner (15-5) picked up the win for the Lady Choctaws, giving up two hits and striking out two in four innings.

In the second game, the offensive production stayed high, with the Lady Choctaws scoring in double figures in all four games of the series.

Bomar led the Lady Choctaws with a 4-4 day and three runs scored.  Jennifer Jones led the run production with two runs driven in.

Freshman Kim Mason (7-8) picked up the win in 3.2 innings of relief.  Mason allowed only two hits and struck out two in the victory.

The Lady Choctaws finished the 2009 season with 10 straight wins, but came up just a couple games short of making the ASC Tournament.  With only two seniors, the future looks bright for MC softball.

ASC Preseason Softball Poll/Awards
CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College softball team has been predicted to finish third in the American Southwest Conference East Division, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday (Jan. 17) after a vote of each division's head coaches, sports information directors and media members.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - The 2011 Easton All-American teams were announced on June 7th and freshman Brooke Smitherman earned a spot on the team.  Athletes selected to the Easton All-American teams are those who have had an outstanding season, and who have been stalwarts for their team.  Due to the number of deserving candidates who were considered for this award, Easton Sports, Inc. has named  "NCAA Division I All-Americans," and "NAIA, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III All-Americans."

ASC Winter/Spring All-Academic Teams
CLINTON, MS - Mississippi College had 43 student athletes recognized on the 2010-11 Winter/Spring All-Academic honor roll.  The teams were announced by the ASC office on Friday (June 3) and include the sports of basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, softball, and track & field.
