Softball Sweeps LeTourneau, Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive

CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College softball team finished their home schedule with a doubleheader sweep of LeTourneau University on Tuesday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.  The Lady Choctaws (18-17, 11-9 ASC) went over .500 with the wins over the YellowJackets (14-19, 7-13 ASC).

The first game was a pitcher's duel with the game going into extra innings before a winner was decided.  Sophomore Lauren Coleman singled in sophomore Kasey Bomar for the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to win, 2-1.

LeTourneau jumped on top first with a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Devin Borsellino that scored Christin Mickelboro.

Freshman Lauren Goolsby tied the game up in the fifth inning on a groundout that scored sophomore Jamie Bennet.

Bomar led the Lady Choctaws with a 3-4 day and a run scored.  Junior Rachel Hurley and Coleman each had two hits apiece.

Freshman Kim Mason (6-8) went all eight innings, allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out five to pick up the victory.

In the second game, the Lady Choctaws jumped out quickly with two runs in the top of the first inning.  Coleman doubled in a run to highlight the inning.

Sophomore Morgan Harpole drove in a run with a double in the bottom of the third inning to extend the lead to 3-0.

In the fourth inning, junior Reagan Jackson singled in sophomore Morgan Gillenwater to give MC a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Choctaws posted three runs in the bottom of the fifth on RBI singles by Gillenwater and freshman Lauren Goolsby.

Jackson and sophomore Jennifer Jones led the Lady Choctaws with two hits apiece in the second game.

Freshman Whitney Warner (12-5) gave up six hits and one unearned run in the complete game victory.  The Brandon native struck out four and walked one in the game.

The Lady Choctaws will finish the regular season with a four-game series in Richardson, TX against Texas-Dallas beginning Friday with a doubleheader at 4:00 p.m.

ASC Preseason Softball Poll/Awards
CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College softball team has been predicted to finish third in the American Southwest Conference East Division, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday (Jan. 17) after a vote of each division's head coaches, sports information directors and media members.

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - The 2011 Easton All-American teams were announced on June 7th and freshman Brooke Smitherman earned a spot on the team.  Athletes selected to the Easton All-American teams are those who have had an outstanding season, and who have been stalwarts for their team.  Due to the number of deserving candidates who were considered for this award, Easton Sports, Inc. has named  "NCAA Division I All-Americans," and "NAIA, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III All-Americans."

ASC Winter/Spring All-Academic Teams
CLINTON, MS - Mississippi College had 43 student athletes recognized on the 2010-11 Winter/Spring All-Academic honor roll.  The teams were announced by the ASC office on Friday (June 3) and include the sports of basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, softball, and track & field.
