DOVER, DE - The Mississippi College Choctaws (9-3) lost 43-9 in a blowout to the Wesley College Wolverines (12-0) Saturday in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs. Wesley dominated from start to finish, building a 34-3 lead at halftime and cruised to their 12th straight win of the season.
The Wolverines rulled up 518 yards of total offense led by junior quarterback Shane McSweeney who passed for 357 yards on 20-30 passing with four touchdowns. Wide receiver Gene Knight was the prime target hauling in eleven passes for 203 yards. Wide Receiver Ellis Krout hauled in three touchdown passes.
The Wolverine defense held the Choctaws to just 265 yards of total offense, and held Adam Shaffer to only 175 yards on 16-37 passing. Wesley sacked the senior quarterback four times.
Wesley got on the scoreboard quickly when McSweeney found Krout from eleven yards out to make the score 7-0. MC answered on the next possession when Brannon Walls booted through a 27-yard field goal to pull within 7-3.
Wesley went on a roll the rest of the first half with four unaswered touchdowns. Aaron Jackson scored from two yards out to build the lead to 14-3. Krout hauled in touchdowns on the next two possessions from 14 yards and 8 yards to make the score 27-3 with one extra point missed.
McSweeny ended the first half scoring on a 5-yard run to make the score 34-3.
In the second half Wesley added a touchdown and a field goal in the third quarter to build the lead to 43-9 with another extra point blocked.
The Choctaws finished the scoring on an Austin Divinity 1-yard plunge with 9:59 remaining for the final 43-9 margin.
