CLINTON, MS - The Mississippi College men's soccer team clinched their fourth consecutive trip to the American Southwest Conference Tournament with a 5-1 win over East Texas Baptist University on Saturday afternoon at Arrow Field on the campus of Clinton High School.
The Choctaws finished the regular season with a record of 12-4-3 overall and a 7-3-3 record in the ASC while the Tigers finished the season with a 6-5-2 overall mark and 6-5-1 mark in the ASC.
MC would score early and often, beginning with junior
Barry Prather scoring the first of his three tallies in the 8th minute on an assist from senior
Chris Penton. Junior
Brandon Mitchell headed the ball in on a cross from senior
Tyler Wade to extend the MC lead in the 32nd minute.
Along with Penton and Wade, defenders
Garreth DeKlerk and
Michael Princiotta were honored for playing their final home games as Choctaws.
Prather would score his second of the match in the 34th minute to give the Choctaws the 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
Junior
Michael Cooper would score his 20th goal of the season in the 58th minute, a new MC single-season record for goals scored. Prather would cap off his hat trick in the 68th minute to give the Choctaws their five goals.
East Texas Baptist would score their lone goal with 12 seconds left when Chris Dier gave the game its final tally.
The Choctaws will enter the ASC Tournament as the #6 seed and will play University of the Ozarks at 2:00 p.m. on the campus of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
